Here’s how the front garden looks in Aug 2012.
Remember how it looked when we just planted it?
And here’s how it looked before we even got that far
This year we went with red petunias and white Alyssium in the garden, and white petunias and lobelia in the planters. The petunias overgrew the lobelia.
The boxwood grew a few inches this year. Those tall plants are Crocosmia Lucifer. They grow gorgeous orangey-red flowers in July. If they are still alive when the boxwood gets too big, we’ll move them.
I also picked up 3 butterfly bushes. They struggled a bit until I mulched them 4 inches deep, and now they’re growing in again. They attract butterflies like crazy. In spring you cut them down to the ground and they’ll grow up to 5-7 feet high. They’re drought tolerant after they get established.
